With an estimated 50+ million residents and visitors traveling throughout South Florida, the Brightline, recently acquired and soon to be rebranded by Virgin Trains USA, provides a means of fast, efficient travel by connecting West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami with future extensions to Orlando and Tampa. Since Florida’s explosive growth over the last century was spawned by Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway, it seems fitting than an advanced rail system will eventually connect the major metropolitan centers of the Sunshine state.
Virgin Trains USA estimates the privately funded rail system will lead to the creating of over 10,000 jobs and generate over $650,000,000 in tax revenue. In addition, people working in Fort Lauderdale and Miami now have a viable means of commuting while enjoying the incredible lifestyle that our region further north has to offer. This is a tremendous boost to the economy of Palm Beach County and long-term real estate value in Jupiter, Tequesta, Palm Beach Gardens and Juno Beach.
I can personally attest to the comfort and convenience of the Brightline, having made the train trip down to Miami a number of times this year. When considering your time, fuel costs, vehicle wear, rush-hour traffic, stress and productivity, it’s hard to beat! The stations are incredible too. They’re modern, clean and comfortable. Each station offers internet access, food and beverage options and lounges. The LED wrapped center column and Miami Central make a big impression when you walk in the door!
Booking proved to be simple using the mobile app, website or kiosk at the station. I also had no trouble changing our tickets at the kiosk when my group wrapped up early for the day and had the chance to catch an earlier train home. When booking, be sure to check for promotional pricing. There’s often a deal to be had.Brightline currently offers two classes: SELECT First Class and SMART Business Class. Both options include comfortable seating and free WiFi. SELECT First Class additionally offers slightly wider seats, complimentary snacks and complimentary beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). I found the seating in SMART class very comfortable and refreshments are still available, but for purchase. One-way standard fares range from $17 to $40 depending on class and destination. Commuter passes are available for $350 per month, allowing riders one round-trip per day in Select Business Class between West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale or Fort Lauderdale and Miami. The West Palm Beach to Miami commuter pass is $450 per month.
If you work in Miami or Fort Lauderdale and are interested in exploring housing in northern Palm Beach County, please don’t hesitate to contact me for more information.
